1)      What is an LED?

An LED is a light emitting diode – a semiconductor that emits light. LEDs are much more environmentally friendly than halogen and fluorescent bulbs as they require much less energy and much less is wasted.

2)      How long does an LED bulb last?

LED bulbs typically last up to 50,000 hours (5-6 years). This may fluctuate a little depending on the environment they’re in.

3)      Will LEDs actually save me money?

Absolutely! LED bulbs require much less energy, and much less of that wasted through heat as LED bulbs don’t get nearly as hot as a fluorescent or halogen bulb. The typical lighting bill for a UK household is around £300, but by using LED bulbs you can slash your bill up to 90% - or £270 per year!

4)      Will LED bulbs fit into my old fittings?

Yes, they’re designed to easily replace your old bulbs into the same fittings. A few may not, so if you’re unsure just drop us an email.

5)      What LED bulbs do I need?

As a general rule, you can simply replace your old bulbs with the same LED version. If you’re refurnishing/redesigning/starting from scratch etc., we can suggest the fittings that would work best. We also have the ability, using Relux, to simulate a wide range of fittings using the dimensions of a room and the required lux level. If this is something you require, drop us an email with the subject line ‘Relux’ and your requirements (charges may apply).

6)      How do LEDs benefit the environment?

LED bulbs require much less energy, and much less of that wasted through heat as LED bulbs don’t get nearly as hot as a fluorescent or halogen bulb. Additionally, LEDs don’t release any toxic or harmful substances such as CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and do not emit any IR or UV. Switching to LED bulbs can also reduce your CO2 emissions by several tonnes per year!

7)      What does IP mean?

The IP rating (Ingress Protection Rating) classifies the degree of protection a product has. The first number refers to protection against solid foreign objects, while the second number refers to protection against water/liquids. The highest rating for the first characteristic is 6, and for the second it is 8. For example, a product with a rating of IP20 has protection against objects with a diameter of 50mm or above, but has no water protection; a product with a rating of IP68has protection against all dust and is safe to be continuously submerged in water at a specified depth. If a product doesn’t display an IP rating, or you’d like to know what an IP rating actually amounts to, drop us an email with a link to the product on the website and what your requirements are.

8)      What colour is best for me?

Most of our products (retail displays excluded) are available in pure white, commercial white and warm white. Pure white is the whitest, sometimes appearing almost a little blue, while warm white is much yellower and commercial white between the two. Pure white has the highest lumen output, then commercial, then warm. If you’re unsure as to what colour you need where, drop us an email.

9)      What certification(s) do your LEDs have?

All our LEDs have CE and RoHS certification. We use well-know and highly revered LEDs such as Philips, Bridgelux etc., and several of our products use industry-leading MeanWell drivers. If you’d like to know the LEDs in a specific product and can’t see it in the description, drop us an email with a link to the product.

10)  Do your LEDs contain anything toxic/harmful?

No, our LEDs contain no harmful or toxic substances. They also do not give off any harmful IR or UV.

11)  Do LED bulbs turn on instantly?

Our LED bulbs do turn on instantly, requiring no start-up time.

12)  What guarantee do your LEDs offer?

Our LEDs come with a 1-year guarantee, as per our manufacturer. Some products may have a longer guarantee, and if so we’ll include this in the product description.

13)  What is the standard delivery time?

Products that are in stock in our adjacent warehouse will be sent on next day delivery (when dispatched before 3pm). Large orders, or orders of bespoke products, will be delivered from our overseas manufacturer’s warehouse and as such will take longer. Our standard delivery is free and generally takes around 4 weeks. We do also offer express delivery, but this is chargeable depending on the size of your order in accordance with our carrier.

14)  Do you offer bespoke/custom designs?

We certainly do! Whatever your desired LED product, we’ll look into it and provide the best available solution. Check our bespoke services page for more options, or email us with the subject line ‘bespoke’.

15)  Do you supply the images/film for LED pockets?

We do! Check our 'Crystal Light Pockets' subcategory under 'Retail Displays'.
